About the Unfussed Reader

I love reading. I love talking about books. I love swapping recommendations with friends and hearing what everyone is reading next.

And yet, for a long time, I felt like I was doing it wrong.

When conversations turned to books, my answers were usually light romances, thrillers, or whatever was keeping me entertained at the moment. Meanwhile, it felt like everyone else was reading biographies, literary fiction, or weighty nonfiction that left them changed forever. I quietly wondered if my books “counted”, if reading for enjoyment was somehow less valid.

Spoiler: it’s not.

The Unfussed Reader exists for anyone who loves reading but doesn’t want it to feel like homework. This is a space where audiobooks count, rereads count, kids’ books count, and abandoning a book that isn’t working is not a moral failure.

Here, I review the books I actually read, across genres, formats, and moods. Sometimes they’re dark thrillers. Sometimes they’re comforting rereads. Sometimes they’re the books I read with my kid. I talk about what it felt like to read them, not whether they’re “important.”

You’ll also find reflections on reading habits, broken reading rules, and small, low-pressure ways to expand your reading life, always optional, never mandatory.

Because reading doesn’t have to make you smarter, better, or more interesting to be worthwhile. It can just be fun.

From thrillers to bedtime stories, read unfussed.
